This was a quick little project to play with some of the new features in Modo 401, including replicator items (the glycerine droplets), clearcoats, multiple environments, and the rest of it. Hey Dan! Long time no see!
Absolutely, I [heart] Modo! I didn’t always love it. It took a while for me to get the hang of it, but now that I’m rolling with it I can’t live without it. If all you need is the occasional Hypershot-quality flat image for a meeting, Modo is definitely major overkill. But if you’re wanting to get more serious about your images, Modo offers a really amazingly flexible workflow, and really fantastic results.

How long did it take 1920×1200 size image in Modo?
This particular rendering took longer than one of my normal renders, because it’s got a shockingly complex material tree. The can has lots and lots of layers of complex parameters to it, so it’s pretty intense. I’ve got a simple iMac core 2 duo, and I think this render takes about 15 minutes on my machine. Not too terrible compared to the old days, but it’s usually better for typical stuff.
