My SolidWorks VAR continues to pester me about upgrading to version 12, which I?ve been reluctant to do until I find out more about it. I didn?t think the improvements in version 11 were worth the upgrade price, so I?ve stuck with version 10, which I?m quite happy with, aside from some unpredictability when using splines and surfacing.
SW 2010 already does everything I need it to do, so what I?m really looking for is improvements to its basic functions, speed enhancements, and that sort of thing. Some of the things I saw demonstrated in Adam?s NX surfacing tutorial would be great to have in SW, but I don?t know whether they?ve done anything on that front. What improvements, if any, are there for creating solids and surfaces?

Good to know, Adam. I guess I’ll be spending my lunch money on a copy of T-Splines instead. ;-)
Aside from the new ‘costing’ feature and revamped equation editor, most of the improvements are in performance. It’s much quicker overall, particularly if you use large assemblies. The new command-search feature is handy in theory, but I haven’t found myself using it much, as I prefer other shortcuts.
In terms of new modeling tools… not much to talk about I’m afraid.
I like it, and I keep paying the annual maintenance fee mainly just to stay in the game, but the latest upgrades have been somewhat disappointing.
