Overview

This week we?ll set up a studio render of the six-pack we modeled last week. Importantly, we?ll also dive deep into the inner-workings of the Shader Tree, and introduce modo?s powerful ?UV mapping? tools to add graphics.

topics:

  • intro to Render item settings
  • intro to Render Outputs, Shaders, and Materials
  • understanding the Shader Tree as layers
  • understanding material groups
  • layer opacity
  • material groups as masks
  • understanding polygon material tags
  • creating area lights
  • understanding material properties
  • understanding gradient layers
  • intro to UV mapping & UV Peeler

Homework

Last week we modeled a Grecian-inspired Vase with a Bauhaus twist, and created some graphics to go on it. This week, use the UV peeler to create a custom UV map, and use it to map the graphics onto the Vase. Then create a custom material for the vase, and place it in a dramatic studio lighting environment, photographed in the style of the Bauhaus. Have fun with it!
