Homework

As I write this I am sitting in my Plaka flat, just east of the Acropolis in Athens, Greece. In honor of this, the birthplace of Western Civilization, today’s challenge is to design a Grecian-inspired Vase, complete with handles and mapped graphics–but designed using the philosophy of the Bauhaus. This week model the vase and create the 2D graphics for mapping. Next week’s challenge will be to map said graphics onto the vase using a custom UV map and render it in place.

As you look at examples of Ancient Greek and Bauhaus designs, try to focus on form and proportion. Where are there similarities, and where are there differences? Let your design drive modo, not the other way around. Own it!

Hint: model one of the handles in a separate mesh item, and then use Duplicate > Mirror to create the opposing handle. It will be best not to connect the handles to the body mesh, as this will make UV-mapping difficult.
