Overview
This week’s modeling task is about as fundamental as it gets: we’re modeling boxes this week people, and dimensionally correct boxes at that! Don’t be fooled though, this is important stuff. As an industrial designer, building dimensionally-accurate models is critically important to my work, so we’ll be beginning to practice methods that emphasize numerical precision. Fun stuff!
By the end of this class, you will have modeled a packaging design for a brand called ?Happiness in a Box.? We’ll model a dimensionally-correct box with slightly rounded corners, and import geometry from Adobe Illustrator to add simple graphics.

Homework
Build a group of actual-scale lidded boxes in modo of various shapes and sizes, each in its own Mesh Item. Add at least one graphic imported from Adobe Illustrator (if you do not have access to Illustrator, use the Happiness in a Box logo from today’s tutorial). Then, using Items selection mode, move and rotate the boxes to compose a formal arrangement of boxes attractively stacked on top of one another (think Macy’s Christmas window displays, et cetera).
Try to create a composition that communicates something about the boxes. For example, merely using form, proportion, and arrangement of boxes, can you communicate whether the boxes are in an old-school shoe store, a decorative window display at Macy’s, or an ultra-modern Scandinavian gift shop?
