Your first modo rendering.

Today we’re going to get you up and running with modo as quickly and easily as possible. All you have to do is follow along step-by-step, and by the end of the tutorial you’ll have your very first photorealistic render.

In future lessons we will diver deeper into the details of working with modo and the theory underpinning it, but this week will be a bit different. My goal for week 01 is to get you excited about what you can accomplish with modo, and just how quickly and easily it can be done.

Completing the assignments each week will not be enough to insure retention of the information. Make sure to spend time each week experimenting with the tools and techniques covered in class.

Have fun :)

Getting started with modo for the first time can be daunting. In this video we will introduce the most fundamental user-interface (UI) concepts you’ll need to understand in order to follow along with the tutorials. It’s a good idea to watch this video, take a few notes, and then tinker with modo for an hour or two just to get your bearings.

Spend some time getting comfortable with basic navigation (zooming, panning, and rotating the view), creating simple primitive geometry (don’t forget to “drop” the tools when you’re done!), selecting geometry (pay attention to the “selection modes”), and making simple transformations (move, rotate, scale).

    Hey Adam,

Found a little Modo ‘extra’ which lets laptop users out there use that great ‘extended viewport’ you are using lots!! If any folk out their takes thier mouse up to the top left corner of the viewport they will find a tiny orange ‘dimple’.

A simple ‘right-mouse-click’ over that dimple gives a contextual list…..click on ‘Maximise/Restore’ and that seems to do what the ’0′ key does on full sized keyboards!!

    Hope that helps everyone!!
