New tutorials: feedback needed!

09 Jun, 2010 by adam in Blog

The new layout is only just the beginning! We have lots of great new stuff coming soon for Rhino, SolidWorks, modo, and maybe even Grasshopper. But in the meantime–Power to the People!–we want to know what YOU want to see. Is there a particular type of product or surfacing technique you’d like to know more about? You’re the reason we make these videos, so we might as well make stuff you like!

    hi Adam,
thanks for so many great tuts, just recently found your site, can see lots of love put into all these :)
personally i would love to see some short T-Splines tuts, covering mainly a real world workflow of say modo -> t-splines -> CAD.
i guess my burning question is that is t-splines actually worthwhile? do people really find it useful? can it potentially replace nurbs patch modelling?
been using modo for a while and i think luxology has some pretty decent tuts already, but it’s always nice to see someone approaching it from the ID perspective :D

    thanks again!

      Hi WeiPai!

I’m definitely interested in doing a few videos on TSplines. The trick will be getting access to a license!

I’ve seen people use TSplines to create really great workflows (modo -> TSplines can indeed have interesting results, and I’ve seen it used in the movie industry). I doubt it will ever “replace” traditional NURBS patches, but it’s certainly a fantastic new addition to the modeling toolbox!

Keep in touch, and let us know how your experimentation goes!

Hey Adam, Yes just registered! keep up the great work.. I look forward to some more fantastic tutorials.. also hoping maybe you can put together some more advanced tutorial like maybe a (5 parter) down and dirty, advanced modeling and 3D line (sketch) construction techniques, for Solidworks, NX, and yes Catia? yes I said Catia, your long lost friend!… whats wrong with going back to basics I like to ask? LOL… but seriously it would be great if you can put together a real down and dirty, get the job down, fast pass, tutorals on like car-body panels, ski boots or organic shape surface modeling.. You know what I mean…something that a intermediate or advanced designer could really sink their teeth into! Thanks again for all that you have done and continue to do!! I look forward to see more great stuff from the CADJUNKIE

    Thanks Again,
    Gene Zabin

Well I will have to say…Thank goodness you are finally doing some more Modo tutorials…I will sign up to see the rest.
Of those you have done that are out there…have enjoyed…clear, to the point and entertaining..in a good way..
Would love it if you would do a session on interiors, for example kitchens or bathrooms…building cabinets, materials, lighting…and so on…that would be great..All in all…really glad of the subscription method…i can “rent” to use…and not be burdened with more stuff…it is just the info I want…thanks…

Ha, glad to hear it, jetsonjoe. In all honesty, I actually do more modo tutorials than anything else; it’s just that the modo tuts are sold through other channels (Luxology.com, Tuts+, and soon a major University). I’ve been doing LOTS of modo work lately, and some of it should come available very soon. I just won’t be sold here on cadjunkie ;)

I do have some plans for making more modo tuts available on cadjunkie ASAP. Glad you enjoy the membership model!

    Hi Kevin:

Sorry to have missed your comment before!

The answer to your question really depends on what your desired workflow/output is. I did an article a while back that may be of help:

    http://cadjunkie.com/choosing-a-3d-package/

I’ve known a lot of interior designers to use Rhino, Modo, 3DSMax, or even (gasp) FormZ. It really depends on the type of work you’re doing.

    Best,
    Adam

    HI Adam,

I asked you some months ago if you could guide me to find the best suitable cad program to use for designing furniture and interior design details. Could you please let me know.

Keep up the good work…… you are the best

    Hi DBenz:

Thanks for your patience while we update the sitemap. The “main menu” at the top of the page should be a big help, especially as we populate it with content. At the moment you won’t find what you’re looking for there, but I’ll get it in there ASAP.

    Thanks again for your patience!

    Adam

  7. DBenz says:

Sorry but I just can’t see listed the videos on Rhino that are numbered 001 through to 023, then listed those in week 5 and 6. Solidworks has a list under the intro vid but where are rhino listed ?

I found on youtube these videos and got as far as 023 but then the trail went dry. I looked here as mention was made of better qlty, but ..where are they ? I do find this website confusing, all those boxes.

  12. James says:

  13. Holger says:

    Hi Adam,

i whish there was a tutorial about technical animation in Modo in a nutshell.

    What do you think?

    Holger

  14. Donnie says:

    Hi Adam,

Your tutorials have been great and easy to follow. I wish you had alias tutorials as well, but I am finding I can translate a lot of the same techniques from Rhino to Alias as well. A surfacing technique that I am interested in is modeling a sharp, hard line that transitions softer and eventually fades off into a smooth surface as seen on body line of cars.

    • adam says:

      Hi Donnie:

Surfacing techniques in Rhino and Alias are almost identical in many respects, so you can definitely translate the information.

I’ll do a tutorial on creases sometime soon. They’re actually much simpler than you think, and you don’t need any fancy tools.

      Adam

  15. Tolga says:
